Vasant Panchami also sometimes known as Shree Panchami, is celebrated by the people of the Hindu community. It is dedicated to the worship of Goddess Saraswati. Widespread celebrations take place during Vasant Panchami.

The Vasant Panchami festival is very much prevalent in the state of West Bengal. The festival is commonly referred to as Saraswati Puja in the state. Goddess Saraswati is an epitome of music, art and learning. The festival is celebrated every year on the fifth day of the month of Magh according to the Hindu calendar. The festival mainly takes place in the period between January and February.

Vasant Panchami is a festival in which mainly students and young people pay their homage to Goddess Saraswati. During this festival, children are taught to write their first words in front of the idol of the goddess. On the day of the festival, people worship Goddess Saraswati and offer pujas. People usually wear clothes in yellow color on this festival as this color is considered auspicious. The idol of Goddess Saraswati is dressed in yellow or white. The puja is made in the form of sweets, fruits, vegetables and other items.

The festival of Vasant Panchami is celebrated with wide enthusiasm and mirth. People meet each other and exchange greetings among themselves. Gifts and sweets are exchanged among each other. People also take part in traditional music and dance performances. The festival portrays the rich cultural heritage of the Hindu community.
